The detectives on the case said that Cooper had fled to Mexico immediately after his encounter with Locke, and could have gone virtually anywhere from there.

Did he go to the island? If so, why? ...and how?

Was he brought to the island by the others? For what purpose?

The most plausible scenario (if you can call it that) is that the others brought Locke's Dad to the island at some point after the crash of flight 815. Somehow, they know everything about the survivors' past, and there's no doubt that Ethan noticed the connection John seemed to have with the island during his time in the survivor's camp. Ben needs Locke's help, and it's no coincidence that Ben can provide exactly what Locke has been wanting every day for the past four years.

On a related topic, if Anthony Cooper is in fact the original Sawyer, do the others know this? Would Sawyer recognize the man who conned his parents all these years later? I would guess not, since he killed the wrong guy just months earlier.

What do you think? Got any good ideas about why Anthony Cooper is on the island?

Post your comments below.

Is Locke's Dad the Original "Sawyer"?

The idea that Locke's Dad (a.k.a. Anthony Cooper) could be the "Sawyer" that conned the parents of the Sawyer we know has been kicked around for a while, but until "The Man From Tallahassee", we never had any proof that Locke's father was a con man that preyed on rich women.

Now that we've seen him in action, it seems almost a certainty that he is indeed the con artist that Sawyer has been searching for all these years. As luck would have it, Anthony Cooper is on the island right now, and there are at least two other island residents who would like nothing more than to help him meet his ultimate fate.

The big question is how did Anthony Cooper get on the island in the first place, but that's a question for another topic.

So what are your thoughts? Crafted by SpOOky on the 4815162342.com forum, this theory basically concludes that time itself is flowing in a loop on the island. The example they use is that the hatch explosion we saw in the Season 2 finale blew the door off the hatch, which (in some kind of time warp) hit the plane and caused it to crash, allowing the survivors to land on the island, find the hatch, not push the numbers, and start the loop all over again.

Seems a little far-fetched at first, but if the same thing are happening again and again, things could have happened on several previous loops that would explain some of the stranmge things that have happened. If the Others have experimented on the Losties, they may have helped Sun get pregnant, healed Locke and Rose, etc. This would also explain how they know so much about the survivors, even to the point where they think they know what Sun will and will not do in a specific situation.

The theory is very interesting. To me, the most interesting part is the four-toed statue that Sayid, Jin, and Sun saw looking almost exactly like the Statue of Liberty's foot.

The name The Seventh Seal Theory is from a film by Ingmar Bergman. Andrew Smith shows screenshots from this film, and it really seems hard to believe that the writers of the show didn't base at least some things off this film. There are several striking similarities between this film and LOST.

Read more about The Seventh Seal Theory.

The Best Lost Theories

LOST - The greatest show on television.

What keeps viewers so enthralled are the mysteries that surround the entire plot, from the fact that over 60 people survived a horrific crash, to the more-than-coincidental intertwining of the survivors' lives prior to the crash.

As with any good mystery series, dedicated viewers have taken it upon themselves to craft theories to explain what they think is happening and/or will happen on the show. Some theories involve one small part of the plot and others are all-encompassing, seeking to explain most of the unresolved plot points so far.

As the plot unfolds, these theories are refined and added to. New theories are always popping up, and posted all over the web, on blogs and message boards. The goal of this site is to bring all of those theories together into one easily accessible place where they can be read, analyzed, and discussed. What better way to spend the time between episodes?

This site thrives on community participation. If you see a great theory not mentioned here yet, let us know. If you have something to add, post a comment! This site can be really great, and I believe we can come up with some great theories!
